secure Overall Victory in the 2018/2019 Dubai Eye 103.8 UAE Road Cycling Championship
UAE, Dubai, Tuesday December 11th, 2018: UAE Cycling Federation Dubai Eye 103.8 UAE Road Cycling Championship crowned its overall champions on Friday, December 7th, at the season-finale, which was raced at Dubai Sports City through a 103.8 kilometer race on Dubai’s Roads.
In what was a thrilling race, and a nail-biting sprint across the finish line, stage honours in the Dubai Sports City fourth, and final stage were clinched by Samah Khaled (Expatriate Female), Khalfan Al Sabri (Emirati Social Male), Majid Al Balushi (Emirati Clubs – Male), and Bart Van den Dries (Expatriate Male).
In the intensely fought four-stage battle for Overall Champion glory, and where riding into the final stage only a matter of mere points separated cyclists, ‘Champion Titles’ were secured by Roisin Thomas (Expatriate Female), Rashid Al Baloushi (Social Emirati Male), Sam Stollery (Expatriate Male) & Majid Al Balushi (Emirati Clubs – Male); with Al Balushi and Stollery retaining the leaders’ jersey’s throughout the Four-Stages.

Jeff O’Brien, Managing Partner Onside Sports and UAE Road Cycling Championship organizer said; “To take over 750 competent-amateur-cyclists on a journey of four exciting, challenging, and varied stages across the UAE; Kalba Climb, Individual Time Trial (at The Outlet Village), Jebel Jais ascent and Dubai Road Race has been a very rewarding experience for our extended team.” “We now move onto planning for the 2019 / 2020 season, and have a few very exciting, new experiences and categories planned for our competitors.”

Titles of the 2018/2019 UAE Road Cycling Championship’s four main categories were decided via a points system, and followed the British Cycling Points System (NAT A Road Category). Main categories were; Open Emirati Male (Clubs), Social Emirati Male, Open Expatriate Male and Open Expatriate Female, where the cumulative-points leader of each main category received and wore the leader’s jersey, stage winners and stage age-division winners were also recognised (at each stage). Overall Champions will take their ‘Champion’s Jersey’ and title through to the 2019/2020 Championship. The overall Champions were also awarded a winner’s cheque to the value of AED3,000.
